Chasing Sea Scorpions - the book

Chasing Sea Scorpions - the book
I just finished editing pages and figure captions for EURYPTERIDS ILLUSTRATED - Chasing Sea Scorpions, a book I have been working on for a little over one year. Currently, there are about 55 photos of fossil specimens relating to my collecting eurypterid fossils over the past 40+ years. I am currently looking for a publisher and will have a meeting on January 14th in Buffalo, New York to see if a group is interested in publication. There is still more editing to do.

Paleoseismites

Seismites represent sediments or sedimentary horizons that have been modified by the energy of earthquakes. Prehistoric seismites are often called paleoseismites or ancient seismites. I recently purchased a wonderful book about seismites and suggest it to anyone interested in this fascinating phenomena: "Ancient Seismites" edited by Frank R. Ettensohn, Nicholas Rast and Carlton E. Brett (Special Paper 359, Geological Society of America, 2002).

A couple of weeks ago, I found an 'old' CD with several photos of my eurypterid-collecting jaunts - it was dated 2003. One of the photos showed a quarry wall with a very distinctive layer of rock - beautifully brecciated. I believe it has gone unnoticed by fossil collectors and researchers and likely reflects the occurrence of an earthquake, over 410 million years ago, that shook up the lime muds and then lithified to form this interesting bed of rock.
I have posted an image of this quarry wall at:
